Macedo LB, Borges DT, Lins CAA, Brasileiro JS. Cryotherapy and Laser Therapy Do Not Interfere in the Response to Eccentric Exercise-Induced Muscle Damage: A Randomized Clinical Trial. JEPonline 2015;18(5):59-68. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of cryotherapy and laser therapy in response to eccentric exercise-induced muscle damage on the biceps brachii muscle. This is a randomized clinical trial with random allocation, composed of 60 active women. All subjects underwent an eccentric exercise protocol (2x10 maximum eccentric contractions of nondominant elbow flexors at 60°·sec-1) and three assessments (pre, post, and 48 hrs after the intervention) of pain sensation (measured by algometry), peak torque normalized for body weight and power (measured by isokinetic dynamometry), and muscle activation (measured by surface electromyography). No intergroup statistical differences were observed for algometry (P=0.15), peak torque normalized for body weight (P=0.77), power (P=0.70), and RMS (P=0.76). Thus, the findings indicate that cryotherapy and low-level laser therapy are not sufficient to stimulate and treat the eccentric exercise-induced muscle damage.

Effect of eccentric exercise-induced muscle damage on electro-myographyic activity of quadriceps in untrained healthy females
Background: The aim of this study was to investigate muscle damage indicators and electromyography activities of quadriceps muscles at 25° of hip flexion in untrained healthy females after an eccentric exercise induced muscle fiber damage. Methods : A total of 14 healthy females participated in this pre-experimental study. The subjects performed maximal eccentric quadriceps contractions at ...
متن کاملEffect of Low-Level Laser Therapy on Muscle Strength and Endurance and Post-Exercise Recovery of Young Adult: A Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled, Randomized Clinical Trial
Background. Recovery or post-exercise rehabilitation is an essential part of exercise training. Low-level Laser Therapy (LLLT) is a modality increasing interest for recovery because of having a conservative and non-aggressive method. LLLT also decreases the production of fatigue-related biomechanical markers, such as lactate, C-reactive protein (CRP), and Creatine kinase (CK). Objectives. To i...
متن کاملThe Effect of Curcumin Supplementation on Selected Markers of Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS)
Inflammation and pain induced by delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) can be induced by eccentric exercise or an unaccustomed activity. The condition can causes problems in exercising and for athletes. The purpose of this study was to assess the effect of 150mg curcumin supplementation immediately after intensive eccentric exercise. Evaluations were made for total antioxidant Capacity (TAC), mu...

Introduction: Delayed onset muscle soreness is known, muscle pain, soreness and discomfort feeling approximately 24-48 hours after exercise. The increased serum biochemical enzymes after acute exercise or unaccustomed training were reported in some studies. The main purpose of this study was to search the effect of warm-up before eccentric contractions on DOMS, biochemical enzymes changes and N...
